Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She's also an accomplished public speech writer. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit site for education that investigates the representation of women in pop stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also is a vocal advocate for issues relating to harassment targeted at women and the other marginalized groups of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker she has made speeches at the TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. From an early age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. As of 2009, this ambitious young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it made her more determined as a feminist media critic. Numerous awards have been given to her as a way of acknowledging all of the contribution she has have made. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received several awards and founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that studies how women are represented in media narratives.
